Troubleshooting

I tap my scale but the display does not light up.

Make sure that you have pulled the battery isolator tab out of the battery compartment on the bottom of the scale. If you have pulled the tab and the display still does not light up, open the battery compartment: use a small Philips screwdriver to loosen the screw, open the battery door and check whether all parts of the tab have been removed. Ensure that the batteries are inserted with correct polarity (see instructions moulded into the battery compartment). Then close the battery door and tighten the screw again.

My scale has the blue backlight on all the time, even after I remove the batteries.

Make sure you remove the blue static cling sticker from the display before first use.

The app is telling me to turn Bluetooth on.

Your device and the scale communicate via Bluetooth connection. Make sure that your device has Bluetooth turned on, or the app will not be able to get data from the scale.

Go to your device settings and switch the Bluetooth button to “On”. You can do this before you open the app.

If you forget, the app will remind you during the set-up or the connection process. After you change the setting, click on the app again to resume.

Do I need to manually connect my device to Bluetooth?

No, you do not need to manually select the WW scale in your Bluetooth settings. The scale should pair and connect automatically to your device if your Bluetooth is turned on.

My app does not connect to my scale.

Your smartphone or tablet device and the scale communicate via Bluetooth connection. Make sure that your mobile device has Bluetooth turned on, or the app will not be able to get data from the scale. In order to turn on Bluetooth, go to your mobile device settings and slide the Bluetooth button to “on”. You can do this before you open the app. If you forget, the app will remind you during the set-up or the connection process. (After you change the setting, click on the app again and the app will bring you back to the screen on which you were before.)

The scale has to be on (display lit up) in order to connect. Firmly tap the scale with your foot to turn it on. With the app open, click on “Connect to Scale”. Once the scale display is lit, the LCD display will show a blinking Bluetooth icon to show that it is attempting to communicate with the app. At the same time, the app shows a Bluetooth symbol surrounded by blinking dots while trying to connect. If your mobile device and the scale fail to connect, simply let the scale display go off and then try again (make sure you tap the “connect to scale” button on the app).

Once the app and the scale connect, you will see a stable Bluetooth symbol on the scale, and the app will show a Bluetooth symbol and check mark on the page as well. Now you can step on the scale. Stand still while the scale takes your measurements and then displays them in the app.  Wait until your app shows the readings before stepping off the scale.

Android only: Clear the cache

If you are using an Android device, some users may have an issue with the Bluetooth connectivity. A common remedy is to clear the Bluetooth cache on the device.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This will clear data of all devices the phone has previously paired with so you will have to pair them all again.

To clear the cache:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Go to Apps

  3. Click on the 3 dots menu > Show System

  4. Go to Bluetooth Share

  5. Tap Storage

  6. Clear Data and Clear Cache

Can I use an Android phone or tablet?

Yes, you can. Before using the “WW Scales by Conair UK app” with an Android device, always ensure that your location services are switched “On”.

The Bluetooth® antenna relies on the GPS antenna to be on. If your location services are switched off, you may have an issue connecting your device and scale via Bluetooth®.

My scale used to connect fine and now my scale and the app are not connecting.

There are a number of things that you can try:

Force quit the app and restart

On an iOS device, double tap the home button on iOS and swipe up to close the open app. Then tap the app icon to open it again. On an Android device, force quitting instructions vary by manufacturer, but usually you tap the Square or the stack of rectangles button, and swipe up or to the side on the app.

Change the batteries

Depending on how often the scale gets turned on, the batteries may be weak. This should only apply if you've had your scale for at least a few months. Weak batteries have a harder time establishing a Bluetooth connection. Replace with a fresh set of 3 AAA batteries (open the battery door in the back of the scale with a small Philips screwdriver).

I just weighed myself but only weight and BMI show. What happened to the other measurements?

The scale cannot measure your body analysis values if your bare feet do not make proper contact with the electrodes (the metal strips/plates) on the scale.

  • Make sure you are standing on the electrodes with both feet. Cover as much of the metal surface as possible.

  • Make sure your feet are bare (if you stand on the scale in pantyhose or socks, it may not eb able to perform the body analysis)

If you are standing on the electrodes with bare feet and the scale is still not reading the measurements, your feet may be too dry. Try rubbing a little water or lotion into the soles of your feet, but be careful not to slip on the glass afterwards.

Make sure you're also standing on the scale long enough to get the full readings done.

My scale only displays weight but no Body Fat, Body Water, etc.

Make sure that your feet are aligned on the metal strips on the sides of the scale. The scale has to make contact with your bare feet in order to get the readings. Do not wear socks or tights. If you step on the scale in bare feet and the scale still does not read your body analysis measurements, rub a little water or lotion into the soles of your feet – but be careful not to slip on the glass surface of the scale.

Not all my measurements are showing up on the dashboard.

If you are using more than one device (for example: an iPad and an iPhone) to communicate with your scale, your data will be stored in two different places.

The measurements you took with your iPad will show on the app dashboard of the iPad, while the measurements you took with your iPhone appear only on the app dashboard on your iPhone.

For data security and privacy reasons, we do not currently allow the data from the scale to be stored anywhere but on the device which you use to access the scale (with a few exceptions: if you consent to have your data transferred to the Health app or to Google Fit, the data may be stored by those entities and is subject to their respective privacy policies.)

You can manually add your measurements on the app dashboard, so you can see all the data together. On the dashboard, press the “+” button on the top right hand corner. Add the weight and click on “Save”.

My scale is not accurate.

Your scale relies on very precise sensors, called load cells, in the feet of your scale. They will react to subtle shifts in the position of your body, and even to changes in temperature. For the most consistent results, it is important to weight yourself at the same time of day, in the same clothes, with the scale in the same spot on your floor and standing on the scale in the same position. For best accuracy, set the scale on hard, level flooring, like a hardwood floor, but not on carpet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the scale safe for someone with a pacemaker?

We do NOT recommend that users with pacemakers or other internal devices use any of our body analysis scales. The weight only function, which does not require user setup and which does not release any electric current is safe to use, but not the body analysis function. If you have questions regarding the safe usage of our body analysis scales, we suggest you speak with your healthcare provider.

Is the scale safe to use for someone with metal implants or prosthetic devices?

There is no safety hazard or risk to the customer using the scale with metal implants or prosthetic devices. The measurement of the resistance may be slightly affected which may result in a slightly lower body fat % reading, but if the user keeps using the same scale, the result will be off by the same amount, so it can be used for tracking trends with no problem.

Why do you recommend not using the scale during pregnancy?

The body of a pregnant woman contains significantly more water than that of a non-pregnant person and the formulas we use to calculate the body analysis measurements are not calibrated for the additional water carried during pregnancy. The weight only function (no user setup) is fine to use during pregnancy.

What is the maximum weight the scale will measure?

The scale will measure to 28st 8lb, 400lbs or 182kgs in increments of 0.1lb or 50g. If significantly more weight is applied, the scale will show ERROR.

How does the scale measure Body Fat, Body Water, etc?

The scale sends a harmless, low electric current from one of the metal electrodes (metal plates) through the user’s leg and the pelvic area, down the other leg and back to the scale. It measures the resistance to the electrical signal between the electrodes. This, in conjunction with the user’s weight and demographic information (gender, age, height), allows us to estimate a user’s lean body mass and from that body fat, body water, and bone mass. BMI is a calculation involving a user’s weight and height.

Why do the various percentages of the body analysis not add to 100%?

Body composition consists of fat body mass and lean body mass. Lean body mass is the total body mass less the fat body mass. The water percentage is calculated as a certain % of the lean body mass. However, muscle, fat and bone all also contain water, which means that the total will always be more than 100%.

How do I change the batteries?

Use a small Philips screwdriver to open the battery door on the back of the scale and take out the used batteries. Be sure to dispose of the old batteries in accordance with local laws. Use 3 fresh AAA alkaline batteries and set them into the battery housing correctly, with polarity as indicated by the molded + and – signs. Then close the battery door again and tighten the screw. Tap your scale firmly with your foot to turn it on.

How do I reset the scale?

To reset the scale and erase all data, there is a small Reset button underneath the scale.

  1. Use a small sharp object such as a paper clip or wire to press the button.

  2. The LCD screen on the scale will display “Clr”.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Doing so will delete all data permanently from the scale and app for all users. If only one user wants to delete their data, that particular user will just need to delete the app from their phone. Do not reset the scale completely.  However, that user number (Slot) alloted to that user will be permanently used until the whole scale is re-set.

What are the possible pairing options for the scale and app?

There are several different pairing options:

  • One scale can pair with several mobile devices. For instance, a husband, a wife and their teenage daughter can each have their own mobile device and pair it to the same scale.

  • The same person can pair several mobile devices to the scale. For instance, the teenage daughter may pair both her iPad and her iPhone to the same scale.

  • The same mobile device can be used to pair to more than one scale. For instance, you can pair to one WW’s scale in the downstairs bathroom and to a different WW’s scale in the upstairs bathroom from the same phone.

My housemate and I want to use the same scale, but we each have a different device (2 users, 2 devices, 1 scale)

Up to 9 people can use the same scale. You go through the normal setup on the scale and choose a user number (say, number 1). When you have finished weighing yourself, the scale displays your weight and body analysis measurements, and the app has recorded them.  The second person can set themselves up: they too will go through the normal setup process on the app, and when it comes to choosing a user number, the app will show that user number 1 is taken, and only give them the option of setting themselves up as user 2, 3, etc.

What is my Username?

During the initial user account registration, the app will ask you to provide your email address. Take note of this email address, and enter that as a Username if you need to log back in to the app.
